Premier's former chairman passes away
23 September 2013
We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Premier’s former chairman Clifford Della-Porta who has died aged 86.
The son of Premier’s founder Albert Della-Porta, Clifford was an engineer and designer whose innovations and ideas revolutionised the industry and continue to be much celebrated to this day.
Clifford joined Premier as a 19 year-old after the war in 1946 and with his engineering degree, established a design and development team that kept Premier as the cutting edge for decades.
He went on to become Premier’s chairman and was instrumental in Premier becoming the first musical instrument company to win the Queen’s Award to Industry for exports.
Not only a talented engineer, Clifford was devoted to supporting Leicester-based charity Menphys, having attended the inaugural meeting to establish the Menphys Leicester and County Playgroup in 1969. He became a trustee, a position he held until 2007, and also served time as chairman.
A requiem mass is to be held at Ratcliffe College Chapel, Ratcliffe on the Wreake, this coming Saturday (28th) at noon, followed by private interment.
The family have requested no flowers but donations can be given to Menphys c/o AJ Adkinson & Son, funeral Directors, 12 London Road, Oadby, Leicester LE2 5DG. Telephone: 0116 271 2340
Our thoughts go out to Clifford’s wife, children and grandchildren.
