Premier corps come out on top at Dungannon

Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band got their 2011 season off to a great start with a win in all but one captions over fellow Premier stable-mates the St. Laurence O'Toole Pipe Band on Saturday 14th May, 2011 at the Co. Tyrone Championships in Grade 1 competition.

2010 world champions St. Laurence O'Toole took the drumming trophy home from the contest which marked the first outdoor competition of the year in Northern Ireland and in Grade 1 consisted of a March, Strathspey & Reel event.

The day was marked with cold and wet weather which affected many bands throughout the day however intermittent downpours were broken up by clearer skies and patches of sunlight for the Grade 1 event.

Field Marshall drew their number one set; Highland Wedding, Blair Drummond and Pretty Marion, and put in a solid run to start the season.

St Laurence also drew their number one set; Lord Alexander Kennedy, Islay ball and Mrs. MacPherson of Inveran, and played very well with a convincing performance from the drum corps led by Stephen Creighton.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, the band's performances secured a firm first and second place overall, with two firsts in piping, and a first in ensemble for Field Marshall, and the Drumming trophy awarded to St Laurence.

Both drum corps showed off their new Premier HTS 800 with Diamond Chrome, and matching Premier Professional Series bass and tenor with custom sparkle lacquer finishes.
