Kidsgrove Scouts crowned 2010 British and European champions

The 2010 British Drum Corps season came to a dramatic close on the evening of Saturday 18th September at Mansfield Town Football Club as Premier endorsers Kidsgrove Scouts retained their DCUK Champions title in their centenary year. 13 Open Class Corps performed to secure a place in the top 8 moving forward into the Open Class Finals with the Scouts claiming pole position with their show 'The Heist of the Century' and a score of 81.25, more than a point clear of second place.

Before the evening’s main event took place the audience was superbly entertained by the four Corps competing for the British Junior Class Champions title which was secured by the perennially popular Kidsgrove Scouts Junior Corps.

In Open Class Finals competition both Kidsgrove and The Company scored 81.85, the first time since 1986 two corps had tied for first place. In line with DCUK rules the tie was broken by the Scouts superior General Effect Score allowing the corps to retain its British Champion status.

With the British title secure the Scouts traveled to Kerkrade, The Netherlands, to take part in the 2010 Drum Corps Europe Championships which were held on Saturday 25th September. The corps placed first in the European Premier Class with a score of 88.65, once again more than a point clear of second place.

This brings the 2010 drum corps season for the Scouts to a close with an impressive list of championship titles to celebrate the group’s 100th anniversary: 2010 Drum Corps United Kingdom Open Class Champions, 2010 Drum Corps United Kingdom Junior Class Champions, 2010 Drum Corps Associates Finalists (6th place), 2010 Drum Corps Associates International World Champions and 2010 Drum Corps Europe Premier Class Champions.
